ASEPA – ANZAN EEG Teaching Course - Hybrid

The 4th ASEPA-ANZAN EEG course was held in Karachi on 25 & 26 November 2023.  This  signature methodological hands-on teaching course in Electroencephalography (EEG) is organized biennially for fresh neurologists and neurology trainees by Epilepsy Association of Pakistan (EAP) and National Epilepsy Centre (NEC) since 2017.   A teaching faculty of seven international master tutors visited Pakistan this year to teach 40 enthusiastic participants from all over Pakistan. The tutors included Prof John Dunne, Chair ILAE-AO (Australia), Prof. Chong-Tin Tan, Chair ILAE-AO Fellowship Training Task Force, Prof. Kheng-Seang Lim, Secretary ILAE-AO, Prof. Raymond Azman Ali (Malaysia), Prof. Derrick Chan, Chair ASEPA (Singapore), Prof. Shang-Yeong Kwan, immediate Past Chair ASEPA and Dr. Chien Chen, immediate Past Secretary ASEPA (Taiwan).
 
On request of the ASEPA and Myanmar leadership virtual participation of fifteen was made possible, however only ten attended. A virtual station for participants from Pakistan was also set up to enable all to learn from and interact with some virtual faculty members too. The virtual faculty comprised of Prof. Andrew Bleasel, Prof. Ernest Somerville, Dr. Ella Stephens, Dr. Hanka Laue-Gizzi, Dr. Manori Wijayath, Dr. Michael Fong, Dr. Tania Farrar and Dr. Zebunnessa Rahman; all from Australia with coordinating tutors from Myanmar, Prof. Moe Moe Zaw and  Dr. Aye-Mya Min-Aye.
 
From this year onwards for certificate of participation, it has been made mandatory to complete the online self-assessment quiz. 

ASEPA – ANZAN EEG Teaching Course - Virtual
Pakistan

The 3rd biennial ASEPA – ANZAN EEG Teaching Course was held virtually in view of travel restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic.  Small group methodological teaching of electroencephalography (EEG) was organized for fresh neurologists and neurology trainees from the country. A teaching faculty of twelve international master tutors consisted of A/Prof. Andrew Bleasel (Australia), Prof. Ernest Somerville (Australia), Prof. John Dunne (Australia), Prof. Chong-Tin Tan (Malaysia); Prof. Kheng Seang Lim (Malaysia); Prof. Shang-Yeong Kwan (Taiwan), Prof. Annie Bye (Australia), Dr. Chien Chen (Taiwan), Chong Wong (Australia), Dr. Xiaohua Chen (Australia), John Phamnguyen (Australia) and Dr Toh Hock Wong (Australia). As per the course format participants were introduced with the basic technical & clinical aspects of EEG reading in adults and children.  Of the 40 registered participants, 35 completed the two-day workshop.

ASEPA–ANZAN EEG & ASEPA Epilepsy Teaching Course Lahore
November 15 - 17, 2019

ILAE-AO’s ASEPA in collaboration with National Epilepsy Centre (NEC) and Epilepsy Association of Pakistan (EAP), held the second 2-day ASEPA – ANZAN EEG Teaching Course followed by a one-day ASEPA Epilepsy Teaching Course in Lahore. Methodological hands-on teaching course in Electroencephalography (EEG) was organized for neurologists and neurology trainees of the country. A teaching faculty of eight international master tutors consisted of Dr. Andrew Bleasel (Australia); Prof. Chong-Tin Tan (Malaysia); Emeritus Prof. Jing-Jane Tsai (Taiwan); Prof. Lim Kheng Seang (Malaysia); Dr. Jacint Sala i Padró (Spain), Dr. Kyoko Kanazawa (Japan); Dr. Raymond Azman Ali (Malaysia) and Dr. Xiaohua Chen (Australia). The participants were introduced with the basic technical & clinical aspects of EEG reading in adults and children in a methodological manner.  The third day was dedicated to lectures by the faculty on update with respect to epilepsy and its management. 

ASEPA - ANZAN EEG Teaching Course
Karachi
November 18 & 19, 2017

National Epilepsy Centre (NEC) and Epilepsy Association of Pakistan (EAP) organized the first methodological hands-on teaching course in Electroencephalography (EEG) in Pakistan through the aegis of ILAE- CAOA’s Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA).   ASEPA-ANZAN (Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists) EEG Teaching Course was held in Karachi for neurologists and neurology trainees from all over the country.
 
This unique hands-on EEG teaching course introduced the participants with the basic technical & clinical aspects of EEG reading in adults and children in a methodological manner.
 
The ASEPA-ANZAN faculty consisted of Dr. Andrew Bleasel (Australia); Prof. Chong-Tin Tan (Malaysia); Emeritus Prof. Jing-Jane Tsai (Taiwan); Prof. Lim Kheng Seang (Malaysia); Dr. Yotin Chinvarun (Bangkok); Dr Choong Yi Fong (Malaysia); Dr. Chin-Wei William Huang (Taiwan); Dr. Ahmad Rithauddin (Malaysia) and Dr. Zarine Mogal (Pakistan).

ASEPA Epilepsy Teaching Course

December 1&2, 2016 – Lahore; December 3&4, 2016 – Karachi

A two-day Teaching Course in Epilepsy was conducted in Lahore and Karachi. The course was organized by Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA) an educational arm of Commission on Asian & Oceanian Affairs, International League Against Epilepsy, in collaboration with National Epilepsy Centre (NEC) and Epilepsy Association of Pakistan (EAP). The ASEPA tutor speakers included Emeritus Professor Jing Jang Tsai (Taiwan), Professor Chong-Tin Tan (Malaysia), Dr. Zebunnessa Rahman (Australia), Dr. Ahmad Rithauddin (Malaysia) and Dr. Zarine Mogal (Pakistan). Emeritus Professor Hasan Aziz (Pakistan) was the guest speaker. The workshop was a combination of didactic lectures and interactive case-based discussions which comprehensively covered all aspects of diagnosis, treatment and holistic management of epilepsy in adult as well as paediatric population.

ASEPA Teaching Course on Focal Epilepsy, EEG Training Workshops and EEG Part I Exam
Karachi & Lahore

January & February 2011

The Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA) conducted a teaching workshop on Focal Epilepsy organized by National Epilepsy Centre (NEC) and Epilepsy Association of Pakistan (EAP). The workshop was held in Karachi. International speakers from ASEPA included Dr. Ryuji Neshige, Dr. Yasumichi Koide and Dr. Yushi Inoue from Japan, and speakers from Pakistan were Dr. Zarine Mogal, Dr. Farah Minhas, and Prof Hasan Aziz. A comprehensive layout of topics was covered during the lectures. Neurologist from all over Pakistan attended the course. The workshop helped to stimulate their interest in the development of epileptology in Pakistan.
 
The workshop was followed by 4-days EEG training workshops by Dr. Neshige in Karachi and Lahore. These trainings were highly appreciated by the participants.
 
The ASEPA-ASNA EEG certificate examination part 1 was conduction in KArachi; 18 candidates took the exam.
